Archives Information
Hours
The Research Room is open noon to 4 pm Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 8 pm on Friday, and by appointment.
Research
Our association, a county historical association, is a not-for-profit organization that researches, collects, preserves and interprets St Lawrence County History. Among our resources for genealogical research are a card index, family file, business directories, county and township histories, and other reference books. Our town files can be searched for information on non-genealogy related subjects.
If you are unable to visit the Research Room yourself, and are interested in having the SLCHA do some research for you, the following fees apply:
- first half hour of research is free (a preliminary search of sources only)
- $25 per hour for research, with a minimum charge of $25. (Note: Donor and Benefactor members of the SLCHA receive two hours of free research).
- 25¢ per page for photocopies.
- $1 minimum for mailing if a self-addressed, stamped envelope is not provided.
Most requests can be answered with a few hours of research. Please note that we are a privately run group and do not have access to vital statistics (births, deaths and marriages, or probate, tax and land records). Also, we do not search census records. We may be able to find a private researcher to do these tasks.
The St Lawrence County GenWeb site has indexes for numerous resources housed at the SLCHA. The cost for getting copies of specific pages from one of these resources is $5 fee (per resource) plus .25 per page copied plus postage.
JeanMarie Martello is the Archives Manager. She started working in the archives in late October of 2002. She does research fulfilling requests for information, helps people who come in to do historical or genealogical research, and maintains the archives.
