President and Mrs. Lincoln & Confederate General Trimble to Attend the 9th Annual Civil War Weekend at Robert Moses State Park, Saturday & Sunday, July 24 - 25

President Abraham Lincoln will attend the 9th Annual Civil War Reenactment Weekend Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25 at Robert Moses State Park in Massena. Massena - President Abraham Lincoln, his wife Mary Todd Lincoln, and Confederate Major General Isaac R Trimble will be among those attending the St Lawrence County Historical Association’s 9th Annual Civil War Reenactment Weekend in Massena. The Lincolns and General Trimble are scheduled to make presentations at Robert Moses State Park, Massena on Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25 during the Civil War Reenactment Weekend (see schedule below).

Abraham Lincoln (Jack Baylis, Cassville, NY) will captivate visitors with his renowned skill for oratory. He will speak about leading the Union through the dark days of the Civil War. Mary Todd Lincoln (Judee Synakowski, Coxsackie, NY) will speak about her life before meeting her husband, as the First Lady during the Civil War, and life after Abe’s assassination. Confederate Major General Isaac R. Trimble (Lee Houser, Clifton Springs, NY) will give summaries of hard-fought and bloody Civil War battles including the 1862 Shenandoah Valley Campaign, Gaines Mill, Malvern Hill of the Seven Days Battle, Cedar Mountain, 2nd Manassas, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. All three of these famous personages will be available to answer questions and speak with visitors.

As part of Saturday’s Fashion Show – The Many Layers of a 19th Century Woman, a woman will be dressed layer by layer so that spectators can see all of the many articles of clothing and how they were worn by a 19th century woman. The 1863 Press Conference with the Medical Staff will occur shortly after the Saturday battle, so visitors can ask the medical staff about their treatment of casualties from the skirmish!

Union and Confederate reenactors will stage mock battles, perform military drills, talk about camp life, and demonstrate such skills as coffin-making, cooking, cannon firing, and medical practices. There will be a basket auction, historical displays and period music. Reenactors from New York, Vermont, Ohio, Ontario and Quebec, Canada, are expected to attend, as well as sutlers (vendors of period goods and clothing).

The St Lawrence County Historical Association presents the weekend, which is hosted by the 2nd Michigan, Co E Reenactment Unit. Admission is $4 per person per day/maximum of $15 per vehicle, and free for children 6 and under. The military camps are open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Mock battles will be at 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Closing ceremonies will follow the Sunday battle. The Marine Corps League St Lawrence County Detachment 408 provides a food concession both days.

It wouldn't be a North Country summer without the St Lawrence County Historical Association's annual Civil War Reenactment Weekend in Massena. The sights and sounds of the Civil War will fill Robert Moses State Park in Massena at the ninth annual Civil War Reenactment Weekend Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24.
